Major Essays and Other Writings is the fourth book in the five-volume series ‘Selected Works of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati’. The thirty essays compiled here cover the period between 1933– and 1950, a crucial phase in the making of the Indian nation and the peasant movement. Sahajanand’s writings are marked by his skill for detailed field investigations and reasoned arguments. He not only critiques issues related to land patterns, party systems and zamindars, but also offers creative alternatives and solutions. His selfless commitment to the peasants’ cause is reiterated in his writings from post-Independence India, where he renewed his commitment to working towards a revolution marked by equity and justice.
